Project Description

Our Road

Design / Marketing

Our Road was developed in response to the emerging pandemic back in 2020. Local organisations supporting those who were vulnerable, with medication deliveries, food parcels, dog walking and general welfare calls to the elderly who were isolating exposed how much local need there was to look after our neighbours.

To continue the exception level of community spirit witnessed during the initial lockdown, Our Road was formed to support each road in Thurrock network with one another. Campaigns were rolled out to encourage everybody to check on their neighbours, support them where they could and ask for help if things became difficult.

To launch the project, local photographers from each Thurrock Ward were asked to take an interesting photo of a place in that area. After choosing final images, we overlayed a borderline of the Thurrock boundary, so if all the postcards were laid out together, you would see just some of what makes our area so special.

After the photos were taken, we printed thousands of photos in postcard size and recruited an army of volunteers to deliver them to every home in Thurrock. Each home got the postcard for their area and spare cards to trade, swap and pass on to others who were collecting them.

The initiative is still running today and is active on social media with many Our Road networks set up and working independently in the community.
